Troubleshooting Basics for Knitting

Feel comfortable with your basic knitting skills, but not sure what to do if you mess up? This class is great for beginner knitters or anyone who would like to gain more confidence in fixing your mistakes.

You will learn how to:

  • Tink back to a mistake
  • Pick up a dropped stitch
  • Recognize and fix twisted stitches and the unintentional yarn over
  • Dropping down to fix mistakes
  • Putting in a safety line in order to rip back to a specific row
Materials to bring to class:
  • Two swatches from homework (below)
  • Removable stitch markers and a crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scrap yarn, at least 1 yard
Homework:
Use a worsted or dk weight yarn (preferably not too dark or fuzzy) to knit BEFORE class:
  • 5”x5” garter stitch (knit every row) swatch still on the needles (don't bind off)
  • 5”x5” stockinette stitch (knit the right side rows, purl the wrong side rows) swatch still on the needles (don't bind off)
  • Homework note: For a 5"x5" swatch, you should only have to cast on roughly 25-35 stitches--whatever gets you to about 5 inches wide. To get your 5 inches long, just knit until your swatch is 5 inches long. Easy peasy!
